Lions at Large

This Summer from 11th July to 14th September 2025 a pride of lions is coming to Mason & Stokes’ home town.

The mane event will see 32 large lion sculptures on the streets of Cheltenham and Gloucester and a pride of little lion cubs hosted by local schools and community groups.

Each lion has been individually designed and painted by incredibly talented local artists, the Lions at Large app and trail map will help you find the location of all of the lions whilst raising money for the Big Space Cancer Appeal by Cheltenham & Gloucester Hospitals Charity. The Big Space Cancer Appeal is raising funds to build a new cancer center at Cheltenham General Hospital to offer patients the best environment for treatment, healing and recovery.

With the chance to support a cause that is close to our hearts, Mason & Stokes have sponsored one of the lions on the trail. We are thrilled with the design produced by our chosen artist Janine from Pikolo UK.

Our lion is called ‘Look for Stars’, and we feel it was the perfect choice for our family run funeral business.

I think the starry night sky often offers great comfort to those who are grieving, the design of our lion also reminded me of the scene in “The Lion King” where Mufasa and Simba talk about the stars being their ancestors guiding them.

We are incredibly proud to be part of this iconic event which celebrates values important to us at Mason & Stokes; community spirit, creativity and time with family and friends.

We’ve been serving the community since 1853 and have gotten to know most of Cheltenham streets really well in that time, we look forward to seeing which of those streets will now be home to a roarsome lion for the summer.
